Accessible WordPress for Victoria & the Island

Victoria sites are often public-facing in a way a private SaaS marketing page is not: visitors, constituents, members, tourists. We build and maintain WordPress that can be used with a keyboard, read by a screen reader, and still look like a capital-city organisation — not a leftover theme from 2016.

A capital-region website has extra homework

People land on Victoria sites from a ferry schedule, a conference, a .gc.ca referral, or a “things to do” roundup. They are often in a hurry, on a phone, and not in the mood for a 12-megabyte homepage. Clarity, hours, location, and a form that works are not “nice to have.”

We are based in Burnaby, which is still Pacific time — unlike a lot of “Canadian” support that is not. Island clients get the same maintenance desk as Metro Vancouver, with copy and IA written for Greater Victoria rather than recycled from a mainland city page.

If you are a public body, a society, or a tourism operator with accessibility commitments, say so in the brief. We would rather estimate a WCAG remediation properly than discover a contrast problem in a launch week screenshot.

WCAG is a build constraint, not a PDF in a drawer

Audits, remediation, and accessibility-first development are part of how we work in Victoria — keyboard paths, alt text that is not a filename, forms that announce errors, and themes that do not trap focus in a mega menu.

A quieter service list, in the order Island clients usually need

Numbered on purpose. Victoria briefs tend to be sequential: make it usable, then make it fast, then keep it that way.

  1. 01

    Accessibility audits & remediation

Find the blockers, fix the ones that matter, and document what is left so you are not guessing before an RFP.

  2. 02

    Website design

Calm, readable UI for organisations that should not look like a startup landing page — and should not look stuck in 2012 either.

  3. 03

    Custom WordPress development

Directories, member areas, and integrations with the tools Island teams already run.

  4. 04

    Maintenance & hosting

Updates, Canadian hosting, and monitoring so a volunteer webmaster is not the single point of failure.

FAQ

Victoria & Vancouver Island — FAQs

For workshops and launches that need the board in the room, yes. For care and development, remote in Pacific time is faster than a ferry. We will not pad a quote with travel you do not need.

Yes. We audit, remediate, and can build accessibility-first. We will not certify you into a legal safe harbour with a badge — we will make the site more usable and give you a written picture of residual risk.

Hours, events, and “sold out” states change constantly. The CMS has to make that easy, and hosting has to survive a long weekend. That is a Victoria-shaped problem we already plan for.

Sometimes. We are a WordPress engineering and care shop, not a full-service Island ad agency. Plenty of Victoria designers already have taste; they hire us to implement, host, and not let the site rot.
